Dr. Coleman, lovingly referred to as The Blacupuncturist, provides acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, tuina, and nutrition and lifestyle coaching in her holistic health clinic. Her sessions are educational and restorative and primarily focus on treatments to support cases of anxiety/stress, pain, depression, insomnia, menstrual pain, and auto-immune conditions. The root of these issues is often found to be related to dietary and/or emotional imbalances. She works with patients of all ages.

Rhonda was raised in New Orleans, LA by a single, immigrant mother. The oldest of three children, she was always the academic scholar and humanitarian. This way was instilled in her as she witnessed her mother go to school and work full time, volunteer at church and with local city and state government, and be present in the lives of her children at home and in extra-curricular activities. Because of her childhood experience, her foundation for work ethic, community engagement, and family responsibility is strong.

Rhonda began a holistic healing career as a massage therapist. Her passion for helping others improve their lifestyle through the use of holistic health practices and self-care motivated her to continue studying over several years. She was in school studying dietary nutrition when she was enrolled in a course that surveyed complementary and alternative medicine practices. Drawn to the topic of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), specifically to the internal medicine diagnosis and prescription of herbal medicine, she enrolled in the Colorado school of traditional Chinese medicine located in Denver Colorado, and received a Master’s Degree in TCM. Desiring to delve deeper, Rhonda continued on to AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, in Austin, TX, where she has completed the didactic courses for Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program. Preliminary research completed for her doctoral dissertation investigated the Barriers to Traditional and Complementary Medicine in communities of color, specifically the Black community in the Denver Metro Area.

In 2015 she founded a nonprofit organization with a goal to provide holistic health education and access to affordable holistic health care for under-served and under-reached communities, the Healing Garden. The Healing Garden provided a myriad of community classes and workshops, exercise, movement, art therapy, and meditation classes. It also served as a medical home to a collective of holistic health providers of color. Through her organization, she is on a mission to create a culture of health by educating the community, especially the African-American community, about living with balance, eating healthy, and becoming more self-aware, as well as maintaining a fit lifestyle. Her goals were to recruit holistic health care providers of color to the collective, work closely with both private and publicly funded education institutions on providing internships to students of color, and provide community education both inside and outside of The Healing Garden walls.

Sadly, The Healing Garden is currently not in operation, however Dr. Coleman
continues her mission to educate the community through her private practice.

Dr. Coleman facilitates lectures on multiple topics around holistic health, self-care, and life balance; while developing her portfolio to include international speaking engagements. She has held talks and breakout sessions for the Integrative Medicine for the Underserved (IM4US) Conference and ACUI Region IV. She is a regular presenter for community wellness conferences and events. She has served on various community panels for talks on healthy lifestyles, women entrepreneurs, health in BIPOC communities, chronic pain & trauma-induced pain, and more. Dr. Coleman has served her community as Vice-President of the Black Acupuncturist Association, Chair of Colorado State Senator District 33 James Coleman’s Health Cabinet, Board Member and Co-Chair of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee for IM4US.

Her long term goal is to help facilitate a return to ancestral healing practices through movement, nutrition, and academic forums that demonstrate our historic use of what are now considered “alternative” practices.

In addition to being a business owner, teacher, and natural medicine healer, she is a dancer, martial-artist, educator, writer, activist, USAF veteran, wife and a mother. She is a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated.
